The Perth Scorchers have suffered a six-wicket defeat to Adelaide Strikers at Adelaide Oval on New Year’s Eve despite a brilliant late batting cameo from Nathan Coulter-Nile.
The Strikers got home with one over to spare, led by the brilliant Michael Klinger who made an unbeaten 86, which included four sixes, as they chased down Perth’s 9-159.
The Scorchers battled hard, taking wickets at key times, but Klinger was the difference with his steady knock after Perth posted 9-159 from their 20 overs led by Coulter-Nile’s stunning 42no off 25 balls. Read more

Perth Glory Football Club is delighted to announce that Socceroos defender Michael Thwaite has signed a new, two-year deal that will take him through to the end of the 2015-16 A-League Season.
He joins Danny Vukovic, Scott Jamieson, Brandon O’Neill and Sidnei Sciola Moraes, who have all recently signed contract extensions and committed their immediate futures to the club, reinforcing the strong foundations being setup by Perth Glory.
Born in Brisbane, the highly sought after 190cm defender had numerous offers from other clubs, but said the decision to sign on for an additional two years at Perth was an easy one. Read more

The Wellington Phoenix has received a major boost ahead of its crucial A-League game against Melbourne Heart at AAMI Stadium tonight with the news that Manny Muscat has signed a new two-year deal.
Now in his sixth year at the New Zealand club, Muscat has been sounded out by suitors from across the Tasman but once the Phoenix said they wanted him to stay there was no contest.
“There was interest from other clubs but I’ve always said the Phoenix comes first,” Muscat said as he prepared for tonight’s game. Read more

New international signing Yasir Arafat has produced an inspired spell to lead the Perth Scorchers to an unlikely six-run victory over Melbourne Renegades at #TheFurnace on Boxing Day.
The Scorchers made KFC Big Bash League history by successfully defending the lowest-ever score from a completed match, having managed only 7-117 from their 20 overs.
Arafat was sensational with the ball, finishing with 3-15 from four overs, while Mitchell Marsh claimed 2-15 as the Renegades were remarkably restricted to 8-111. Read more

The Perth Scorchers have bolstered their pace bowling stocks by signing Pakistan seamer Yasir Arafat for the remainder of the KFC Big Bash League season.
Arafat fills the vacant international signing spot made available by the withdrawal of Barbadian batsman Dwayne Smith.
Smith is expected to miss the entire tournament due to personal reasons. If Smith subsequently becomes available during the tournament, Perth can apply to the BBL Technical Committee to have him resume his place in the Scorchers’ 18-player squad. Read more

Central Coast Mariners wish to advise its Members and supporters, as well as media, that striker Adam Kwasnik will miss the remainder of the Club’s 2013/14 season due to a knee injury.
Kwasnik will undergo surgery in the New Year to address a knee cartilage problem, with the recovery phase from the operation rendering him unavailable for the remainder of the campaign.
Kwasnik is understandably disappointed to have been ruled out for the rest of the season, however said his focus is on returning to full fitness and competitive action as soon as possible. Read more
Central Coast Mariners will sit in sixth place on the A-League ladder this Christmas after Phil Moss’ men suffered a 2-0 defeat to NSW rivals Western Sydney Wanderers at Pirtek Stadium, Parramatta on Monday.
First half goals to Tomi Juric and Youssouf Hersi earned the Red & Black all three competition points in front of a boisterous crowd of 15,786 supporters at the venue often referred to simply as ‘Wanderland’.
Urged on by their vociferous support, Wanderers started the game brightly with shots from Hersi and Japanese maestro Shinji Ono aimed at the Mariners’ goal in the opening minutes of the match. Read more
Central Coast Mariners can tonight confirm an agreement has been reached for attacking midfielder Michael McGlinchey to leave the Club on loan to Japan’s Vegalta Sendai for the majority of 2014.
With the nimble New Zealander’s one-season loan move to Graham Arnold’s Sendai now finalised, the Mariners can also confirm 2013 A-League Championship winner Bernie Ibini will re-join the Club on loan from Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai SIPG until May 31, 2014.
Under the terms of the arrangement, McGlinchey will be eligible to play for the Mariners until A-League 2013/14 round 13 when Central Coast welcomes Melbourne Heart to Gosford’s Bluetongue Stadium. Read more
Wellington Phoenix talisman Paul Ifill is determined to continue playing football despite facing eight to 12 months rehabilitation after sustaining a grade 3 rupture of the Achilles tendon in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Sydney FC at Westpac Stadium.
Ifill was tonight resting at his Hataitai home after undergoing an operation to mend the tendon and was in a typically defiant mood.
“Football has been my life and I want to continue playing at whatever level I can,” Ifill, 34, said. Read more

Kookaburras coach Ric Charlesworth has named his 18 athlete squad for next month’s inaugural Hero Hockey World League Finals tournament in Delhi, India.
As the Australian men commence a busy and high profile year featuring the World Cup, Commonwealth Games and Champions Trophy competitions, as well as the World League Finals, Charlesworth’s squad features a number of athletes for whom the World League Finals offers an opportunity to gain highly valuable major tournament experience.
It also sees the return of two of the Kookaburras’ biggest names with Olympic gold medal winner Mark Knowles and London 2012 Olympian Kieran Govers both back from injury. Read more
