A six-point loss to the Highlanders has ended the Brumbies’ Super Rugby season at GIO Stadium this evening.
A late and determined effort after the siren in front of 8559 screaming Brumbies fans wasn’t enough for the home side that went down 15-9 to the reigning champions.
In driving rain and strong winds, the first half was dominated by attempts at goal from both sides and it was the Highlanders’ Lima Sopoaga who opened the scoring with a penalty from directly in front.
The Brumbies scrum has been an impressive aspect of their game all year and it yielded two early penalties as a result. Christian Lealiifano missed his first attempt but made no mistake on the second from directly in front.
The Brumbies were slowly gaining the upper hand after 20 minutes and a bursting line break from Tevita Kuridrani put them in great position.
Yet another penalty was awarded to the home side and Lealiifano converted to give the Brumbies a 6-3 lead. Read more

Australian sport’s greatest rivalry, State of Origin, will head to Perth for the first time in 2019.
The NRL can today announce that Game Two of the 2019 State of Origin series will be played at the new Perth Stadium.
It will be the first time, barring the 1987 exhibition match in Los Angeles, an Origin match has been played outside of the eastern states of Australia. Read more
