Matt Maguire and Rohan Bewick have signed extended deals with the Brisbane Lions – the latest in a line of re-signings at the Club.
Maguire, 28, has signed a one-year extension, while Bewick, 22, has agreed to a two year deal.
Maguire came to the Lions at the end of 2009 and has since cemented himself as a key part of the Lions’ defence. Read more

Champion Brisbane Lions midfielder Simon Black has agreed to a new one-year deal that will see him enter his 16th AFL season with the Club.
Black, 33, said the development of the Lions’ playing group over the past 12 months made the decision an easy one for him.
“It’s fantastic to extend my career another year at the Club and I’m excited and thrilled to be a part of the playing group going forward into next year,” he said. Read more
Lions veteran Amon Buchanan will retire at the end of the 2012 season, finishing a career that has spanned ten seasons, 134 senior games and the ultimate AFL honour – a premiership.
Buchanan, 29, informed his teammates of his decision earlier this month and was honoured at tonight’s Club Champion dinner.
He will continue to play with the Lions Reserves as an integral part of the team that will campaign towards the 2012 NEAFL premiership, before hanging up the boots at the end of the season. Read more
Young utility Ryan Lester has today signalled his commitment to the Brisbane Lions by signing a contract extension that will see him at the Club until at least the end of 2014.
Lester, taken at Pick No.28 at the 2010 AFL National Draft, has taken on a variety of roles in 19 of 22 senior matches this season, and has impressed the Lions coaching staff with his versatility, work ethic and quiet achievement.
He is the latest in a line of young Lions to recently re-sign with the Club, including fellow 2010 draftees Claye Beams and Josh Green, who both committed to new two-year deals last month. Read more

Vice-Captain Jed Adcock and youngsters Claye Beams and Josh Green have all signalled their commitment to the Brisbane Lions by signing extended deals with the Club this week.
Adcock, 26, has signed a three-year deal, while Beams, 20, and Green, 19, have both agreed to two year extensions.

Brisbane Lions ruckman Matthew Leuenberger will turn his focus towards preparing for the 2013 AFL Season after a return to action this year was ruled out by the Club.
Leuenberger, 23, has been on the sidelines since Round Three with a partial tear to his Achilles.
General Manager, Football Operations, Dean Warren, said there was little benefit to gain from pushing Leuenberger to return to playing at either senior or NEAFL level in 2012. Read more

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has led the tributes for Greater Western Sydney Giants Head Coach Kevin Sheedy ahead of his 1000th game against Port Adelaide at Skoda Stadium this Saturday.
The Prime Minister is one of a number of prominent people who’ve recorded messages for Sheedy as he prepares to become the first person in the history of the VFL-AFL to reach a combined total of 1000 matches as a player and coach.

2008 first round father-son selection Ayce Cordy has played 11 games this season, and has impressed with his development as a key forward.
