Jets allow Milicic to join Roar

Hyundai A-League Former Socceroos striker Ante Milicic has been allowed to leave the Newcastle Jets after agreeing terms with Queensland Roar.

The Hunter-based club desperately needed to offload players to stay under the salary cap. Releasing Milicic from his four-year deal freed an estimated $200,000 per year.

He joins five others previously cut from the Jets' original 20-man roster.

"Unfortunately in football some things work out and some don't and where they are not working, it is always better to face up to the reality and move on," said Newcastle football director Remo Nogarotto.

"The club will now immediately enter the market for a suitable replacement for Ante and we are confident that an announcement on that front could be made in the next couple of weeks."

Queensland moved for Milicic to replace top scorer Alex Brosque, who has returned home to join Sydney FC.
