Ladder leaders Chelsea win again

EPL Saturday Night Review

League leaders Chelsea continued their good form with a 2-0 win in the derby against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham started brightly but their task was made all the more difficult when striker Mido was sent off after 25 minutes. Referee Styles believed Mido had gone in for an aerial challenge with his arm raised, though replays were inconclusive.

Chelsea's first goal came just before half time when Spanish defender Asier Del Horno guided a low header in from Frank Lampard's curling free kick.

Tottenham's misery was compounded on 70 minutes when Shaun Wright-Phillips cut a low cross back for Damien Duff who miss hit his shot in off his shoulder.

At the City of Manchester Stadium, Stuart Pearce's side continued its excellent form with a 2-1 victory over struggling Portsmouth.

City fell behind in the second half when John Viafara glanced a header in from Laurent Robert's deep cross.

But they were level soon after. Portsmouth keeper Sander Westerveld mishandled a cross and it fell kindly for Claudio Reyna to poke home. Veteran Andy Cole pulled City ahead with a fine turn and shot just minutes later.

Milan Baros made a dream debut as his goal secured a 1-0 win for Aston Villa over Blackburn Rovers.

The Czech striker caused Blackburn problems for the entire match as Villans walked off with a derserved three points.

Fulham recorded their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Everton at Craven Cottage.

Chris Coleman's side had been desperate for an improvement and a moment of magic from Steed Malbranque paid dividends when Brian McBride netted from a Volz cross.

Everton battled solidly through the second half but Phil Neville's final minute dismissal added more misery after midweek European heartbreak.

A lack of striking options meant West Ham slipped up as Bolton claimed a 2-1 win at Upton Park.

Kevin Nolan opened the scoring for Bolton before Ivan Campo netted a second with five minutes remaining. A last minute penalty from Teddy Sheringham provided mere consolation for the Hammers.

Birmingham claimed its first win and an entertaining Midlands derby as they beat West Brom 3-2.

Emile Heskey returned to a Birmingham side struggling to score and had an immediate impact when he scored 10 minutes in. Geoff Horsfield equalised minutes later before on-loan Jiri Jarosik returned Birmingham's lead and Emile Heskey's headed second gave the Blues a 3-1 lead at half time.

West Brom battled were more creative in the second half and were rewarded when Geoff Horsfield claimed his second but it was not enough and Birmingham claimed their first win of the season.

A basement clash at the JJB stadium saw Wigan Athletic run out 1-0 winners over Sunderland.

Jason Roberts scored a second minute penalty after he was fouled by Gary Breen and Wigan managed to hold out for the first Premier League win in the club's history. Sunderland were left to lick their wounds as the unpleasantly familiar taste of defeat continued.
