There was action in the Scottish, Italian, Spanish, German, French and Dutch leagues this weekend.
In the Scottish Premier League Rangers were defeated for the second time this season when Hibernian claimed
victory against them at Ibrox. Ivan Sproule was the man of the moment for Hibernian when he came off the bench
on the hour and netted a superb hat-trick.
Other results were Dundee United drew 1-1 against Inverness, Celtic defeated Dunfermline 4-0, Aberdeen
defeated Falkirk 3-0, Hearts defeated Motherwell 2-1 and Kilmarnock defeated Livingston 3-0.
In the Italian Serie A, Adriano inspired a 3-0 win to Inter over Treviso with a hat-trick. The Brazilian
striker scored his first on 32 minutes and his second on 68 minutes. He completed his treble ten minutes from
full-time.
Other results were Juventus defeated Chievo 1-0, Ascoli drew 1-1 against Milan, Lazio defeated Messina 1-0,
Parma drew 1-1 against Palermo, Roma defeated Reggina 3-0, Siena defeated Cagliari 2-1, Udinese defeated
Empoli 1-0, Livorno defeated Lecce 2-1 and Fiorentina defeated Sampdoria 2-1.
In the Spanish La Liga, Real Madrid made a winning start to the new season with a 2-1 victory over Cadiz.
Inspired by a late substitute cameo from Brazilian starlet Robinho, Real claimed the win with Raul scoring
with five minutes to go. Ronaldo scored the first of the match with a low drive on four minutes. Matias Pavoni
equalised for Cadiz when he scored on 63 minutes. Substitute Robinho collected a superb pass from David
Beckham, he then fed the ball to Ronaldo who unselfishly passed it to Raul who fired the ball into an empty
net from close range.
Other results were Atletico Madrid drew 0-0 against Real Zaragoza, Celta Vigo defeated Malaga 2-0, Getafe
defeated Espanyol 2-0, Osasuna defeated Villareal 2-1, Deportivo defeated Mallorca 1-0, Sevilla defeated
Racing Santander 1-0, Alaves drew 0-0 against Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao defeated Real Sociedad 3-0 and
Valencia defeated Real Betis 1-0.
In German Bundesliga action Bayern Munich kept their perfect record after a 3-0 win over Hertha Berlin.
Michael Ballack scored 2 minutes after half-time and two late goals from Mehmet Scholl and Roy Makaay sealed
the victory for Bayern.
Other results were Arminia B defeated FSV Mainz 2-0, MSV Duisberg drew 1-1 against Borussia Dortmund,
E.Frankfurt defeated Nurnberg 1-0, Kaiserslautern defeated Cologne 3-2, Hamburg drew 1-1 against Hanover 96,
Schalke drew 1-1 against Borussia Monchengladbach, W Bremen drew 1-1 against Stuttgart and Wolfsburg defeated
B Leverkusen 2-1.
In the French Ligue 1 Lyon moved to the top of the table after an impressive 2-0 win against Auxerre.
Mahamadou Diarra scored the first after just six minutes. Brazilian ace Juninho Pernambucano scored the second
on the stroke of half-time.
Other results were Monaco drew 0-0 against Lens, Strasbourg drew 0-0 against Bordeaux, St Etienne drew 0-0
against Sochaux, Nice defeated Paris SG 2-1, Nantes drew 0-0 against Metz, Nancy defeated Rennes 6-0, Le Mans
defeated Troyes 1-0, Marseille drew 1-1 against AC Ajaccio and Lille drew 0-0 against Toulouse.
In the Dutch Eredivisie PSV Eindhoven are back into the leading pack after they defeated Roda JC 3-0.
Jefferson Farfan made the breakthrough scoring seven minutes before half-time. DaMarcus Beasley scored the
second nine minutes after he came off the bench. A late goal from Phillip Cocu sealed the points for PSV.
Other results were Twente defeated Utrecht 3-1, Roosendaal drew 1-1 against Willem II, Heracles Almelo
defeated Groningen 2-1, Feyenoord defeated Ajax 2-1, RKC Waalwijk defeated NEC Nijmegen 3-1, S Rotterdam
defeated NAC Breda 1-0, AZ Alkmaar defeated Vitesse 5-0 and ADO Den Haag defeated Heerenveen 1-0.
