EPL Weekly Review – Round Three

Bolton has taken advantage of West Ham's lack of forwards with a 2-1 victory at Upton Park. Bolton captain Okocha set up the victory when, in the 59th minute, the rebound from his blocked effort was netted by Kevin Nolan, before Okocha fed Ivan Campo for the second five minutes from time.

Teddy Sheringham fired home a penalty for West Ham in the 90th minute to give Allardyce's men a few anxious moments as Bolton moves to third on the Premiership table and West Ham drop to ninth.

An Emile Heskey double has set up a 3-2 victory for Birmingham City over West Bromwich in the first of the midland derbies. Horsfield continued his good run of form for the Baggies with a double against his former club while the Blues third goal came from Jiri Jarosik.

Star transfer Milan Baros has sealed a 1-0 victory for Aston Villa over Blackburn with his first goal for the club. The Czech striker immediately earned the respect of the Villa fans with a clinical finish in the 11th minute when the home side were dictating in the first half.

Fulham have bounced back from their trouncing by Arsenal with a 1-0 win over Everton. Malbranque sent through a well-weighted through ball just before the hour with Brian Harris tapping in an easy ball. Fulham now find themselves 14th on the table with Everton sitting in 17th place.

Manchester City has moved into second place on the ladder with a 2-1 victory of Portsmouth at City of Manchester Stadium. It was the second match in a row that city came from a goal down to win, with Pompey's John Viafara scoring in the 52nd minute before City struck back with Claudio Reyna and Andy Cole both finding the back of the net.

A first minute penalty to Jason Roberts was enough to hand Wigan a 1-0 win over Sunderland at the JJB Stadium.

Wigan was certainly lucky to go ahead in the first minute when referee Steve Bennett pointed to the spot in the 14th second after Sunderland skipper Gary Breen challenged Roberts in the area. Wigan now climb to 16th on the table with Sunderland the only team not to claim a point this season.

Chelsea has continued it's unbeaten run against Tottenham with a 2-0 victory at White Hart Lane. What started as a tight contest swung Chelsea's way after Spurs striker Mido was sent off for striking Del Horno.

This proved costly as Del Horno recovered to score a header goal while Damien Duff added a fluke goal 19 minutes from full time. The result sees Chelsea continue it's 15 year unbeaten run against Tottenham.

Charlton has continued its perfect opening to the season with a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium. Danny Murphy was again instrumental in the win as the Addicks scored goals through Dennis Rommedahl, Chris Perry and Darren Bent.

Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy have both scored as the Red Devils continued its perfect start to the season with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle at St James.

After a goalless first half, Manchester United flexed their muscles with goals coming from Rooney in the 66th minute and van Nistelrooy in injury time.
