Kangaroos snap streak, Carlton take spoon
Kangaroos 113 defeated Carlton 83
The Kangaroos have snapped a two game losing streak with a 30 point victory over Carlton at the Telstra Dome
on Sunday afternoon.
A six goal to three third term set up a much-needed win for the Roos courtesy of two majors to big-man
Saverio Rocca and singles to Shannon Grant, Brady Rawlings, Lance Picioane and Drew Petrie.
For the Kangaroos Grant (26 possessions), Brent Harvey (28 possessions) and Daniel Wells (28 possessions)
were dominant in the midfield whilst up forward Rocca booted 5 goals for the afternoon.
For Carlton who claimed their second wooden spoon in three years Nick Stevens (31 possessions) and Anthony
Koutoufides (22 possessions) were the major ball winners whilst up forward Brad Fisher provided a target
booting three goals.
In perfect conditions for football the Blues came out firing booting the first major of the game through
Nick Stevens. They then piled on the next two goals through Justin Davies and Andrew Walker.
A lack-lustre Kangaroos outfit were in need of a reply and it came through Nathan Thompson. Koutoufides and
Jones then traded goals for their respective teams and at the break the Blues led by 11 points.
The Kangaroos started the second term with a bang piling on the first three goals through Leigh Brown,
Michael Firrito and Petrie to take the lead. Brad Fisher then levelled the scores for the Blues with a major
of his own.
The rest of the quarter was a hard-fought stalemate as the boys from Arden street went into the long break
with a one-point lead.
Carlton came out fired up in the premiership quarter and booted the first goal of the term through Justin
Davies. Saverio Rocca and Barnaby French then exchanged goals for their respective teams.
Grant booted his first for the afternoon followed up by Rocca’s second major to stretch the lead out to
eight points.
Fisher momentarily stemmed the tide with a major to level the scores but the Kangaroos kept on coming with
three goals in time-on including a major from Petrie after the siren, and at the break the Blues trailed by 17
points.
Carlton came out playing for pride in the last term booting the first major through French. The Kangaroos
then put their foot on the pedal with the next two goals of the term. The rest of the term proved to be a
shoot-out which was not good enough for the Blues who claimed the wooden spoon and gave the Kangaroos a
30-point victory.
