Force Gold thrash Japanese tourists

Western Force Western Force Gold has thrashed Japanese club side Yamaha Jubilo, defeating the tourists 66-7 at Rosalie Park in Perth on Saturday afternoon.

Force Gold, representing Western Australia during the Super 14 off-season, scored five tries in each half and kept the visitors scoreless until the final minute.

The match was only five minutes in when fullback Scott Daruda crossed for the first try. Flanker Matt Hodgson crossed for the second try in the 12th minute, while Daruda made it 14-0 with another successful conversion attempt.

The backline domination, led by centre Junior Pelesasa saw the home side in again 10 minutes later. A high tackle on winger Haig Sare in the 25th minute saw the visitors lose Ipolito Fenukitau to the sin bin.

From the ensuing penalty Hodgson charged over for his second try of the game, while Daruda made it 28-0 with his fourth successful conversion.

Winger Brett Stapleton kept the score in pace with the clock when he crossed for the Force Gold’s fifth try in the 31st minute.

A suspected broken hand ended flyhalf’s James Hilgendorf’s match four minutes later, replaced by Tajhon Mailata.

Force Gold ked 35-0 at half time, and the rout continued when Mailata touched down five minutes after the resumption.

Stapleton capped a fine outing with his second try before Vitori Buatava, Pek Cowan and David Peacock came on for Daruda, prop forward Gareth Hardy and Hodgson.

With fresh leg on field, the Force Gold maneuver through the Yahama defence for a further three tries in the final 10 minutes.

Pelesasa joined Hodgson and Stapleton in scoring a double before replaced by Gold Coast Titans (league) bound Josh Graham.

Sare and Graham finished off proceedings with a try each as the home side reached 66-0 with four minutes to play.

Yahama Jubilo did manage to score a consolation try through Koji Tomioka, thus avoiding the embarrassment of scoring nothing.

Next week, both teams meet again next Saturday afternoon at Rugby Park, Perry Lakes with the kick-off scheduled for 3:30pm.
