ASADA and Rugby League working together
The Chairman of the Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority (ASADA), Mr Richard Ings, today confirmed that
ASADA is working closely with Australian sport, including the sport of Rugby League, on programs to close the
net on potential doping.
ASADA as Australia’s peak anti doping body, was established by the Australian Government with broad ranging
powers to detect and deter doping in all sports.
ASADA will focus its significant resource of intelligent investigations and testing methods in such a way
as to effectively answer the question of whether doping is occurring in Australia. ASADA is stepping up their
investigations in all Australian sports.
“ASADA in partnership with the state and national level Rugby League bodies has conducted a number of anti
doping initiatives over the past few weeks.
ASADA can confirm that the current anti-doping initiatives have not revealed any National Rugby League
player testing positive to anabolic steroids, EPO, human growth hormones or stimulants.
These initiatives are designed to deter any athlete who may be contemplating doping or catch any athlete
who may be involved in doping.
“Any athlete or athlete support personnel involved in using prohibited substances in any sport needs to
know that at no stage in Australian sporting history have they stood a greater chance of being detected and
sanctioned.”
