Bullants completely outclass Tigers
VFL Wrap - Round 20
The Frankston Dolphins continued their late-season surge up the VFL ladder, overcoming Port Melbourne at the
weekend to finish the home and away season in fifth position after being in danger of missing the finals just
a month ago.
The Dolphins will enter this weekend’s home final against Coburg full of confidence, as will the rampaging
Northern Bullants, who completed an outstanding season with a commanding win against Bendigo to win the minor
premierships by finishing four wins clear at the top of the table.
The Northern Bullants (16.10.106) defeated the Coburg Tigers (8.6.54) at Coburg City Oval.
After a great first half of the season it has been a tough time for the Tigers who have struggled to
perform consistently, unlike the Bullants who have dropped just one game and have been undefeated at home for
just the second season in history.
Dylan McLaren kicked six goals and Daniel Harford was best-on-ground, further enhancing his chances of
winning the Liston Trophy.
Geelong (14.6.90) defeated Werribee (8.8.56) at Skilled Stadium.
Werribee needed to beat Geelong if they were to enter the top four but this never eventuated as the Cats
ran all over a Tigers outfit that struggled compared to recent weeks, when they have outclassed everything
thrown at them.
Todd Grima and James Kelly both kicked three goals with Grima also being awarded the Andrew Bews medal for
his best-on-ground performance.
Tasmania (21.17.143) defeated the Box Hill Hawks (9.8.62) at Aurora Stadium.
Tasmania finished their season on a high with a huge win over a Box Hill Hawks team that will draw
confidence from the second half of this season as they start planning for next season and no doubt will be
looking to make a huge improvement.
Jack Riewoldt kicked five goals and Ben Setchell was best for the Devils.
Frankston (20.14.134) defeated Port Melbourne (16.12.108) at Teac Oval.
Frankston outclassed Port Melbourne as Aaron Edwards was again the difference up forward as the Boroughs’
defence struggled to contain a player that has taken the competition by storm since returning to Victoria
after a stint with the West Coast Eagles.
Edwards booted nine goals in a best-on-ground performance for the Dolphins and now has the Frosty Miller
medal sewn up for season 2006.
Sandringham (16.12.108) defeated the Bendigo Bombers (9.11.65) at the Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Sandringham got their finals preparations back on track with a win over Bendigo after they had struggled
during the second half of the season to maintain consistency.
Nick Smith kicked four goals and Phil Read, with 46 possessions, was best for the Zebras.
North Ballarat (18.16.124) defeated the Casey Scorpions (14.10.84) at Casey Fields.
North Ballarat rebounded from a loss to Werribee last week to record an impressive win over a Casey outfit
that has looked like finals material at different times during the year and in other games has failed to be
competitive.
Brent LeCras and Ben Schwarze both kicked four goals, with Schwarze best for the Roosters.
Williamstown had a bye this week.
