Warriors take the Bulls by the horns
Career-best bowling by Brett Dorey has helped Western Australia restrict Queensland to a modest first innings
total after the first day of the Pura Cup match at the Gabba Ground in Brisbane.
On the rain affected opening day the Bulls reached 8-280, after being in control at 1-115 when lunch was
taken. Earlier the Warriors won the toss and had no hesitation electing to bowl first.
Queensland began the day superbly with opener Lachlan Stevens defying the Warriors bowlers to carve out his
maiden century. Stevens shared the first wicket stand of 77 with rookie Ryan Broad, though Broad only
contributed 16 before being bowled by Dorey. The second wicket stand added a further 59 before Martin Love (30)
handed Chris Rogers his second catch of the day.
The Bulls were rocked overnight with the news that captain Jimmy Maher and Mitchell Johnson could not take
their place in the team line-up due to illness. The forecasted rain eventually fell in the middle session with
the Bulls comfortably in control at 2-172.
However, when play resumed the bowlers grabbed the raging Bulls by the horns with two quick wickets of
Stevens (105) and Craig Philipson, for a third-ball duck.
Dorey had all four wickets to fall and while fellow paceman Matthew Inness snared the fifth wicket, of
James Hopes (18), Dorey returned to claim the next three in the extended final session.

Kasprowicz the only other player waiting to bat.
