Bushrangers smash Tigers


ING Cup 2005/06 Victoria defeated Tasmania in a rain affected ING Cup match at the NTCA ground in Launceston today.

Batting first, the Tasmanian Tigers made 8/246 off the allocated 50 overs.

Former Victorian squad member Travis Birt was the highest score for the Tasmanians, compiling 41.

Four other batsmen in all-rounder Adam Polkinghorne (35), George Bailey (34), Michael DiVenuto (35) and young spinner Xavier Dotherty (34) all contributing towards a decent score but failing to go on to make bigger scores.

For the Bushrangers, all-rounder Jon Moss was the best of the bowlers taking 2/37 off his ten overs and received good support from Shane Harwood who also took two wickets after he finished with 2/39 off ten overs.

In reply, the Bushrangers had the task of chasing down a target of 247 by amassing 3/248 off 46.5 with 19 balls to spare.

David Hussey was the hero with 94 not out and captain Cameron White remained 73 not out, both batsmen at the crease when the winning runs were scored.

Michael Klinger continued his good form in one-day cricket for Victoria, scoring 41 as the wickets fell around him until Hussey and White knocked up an impressive 162 run partnership.

Hussey received man of the match for innings of 94, which seven fours and three sixes off an amazing 79 balls.

With the ball for Tasmania, former Victoria Country representative Darren McNees was the pick of the bowlers claiming 2/28 off ten tidy overs of fast medium pace and the only other wicket to fall in the Victoria innings was claimed by Adam Griffith, who finished with 1/54 off ten overs.

Earlier, the Bushrangers attempted to chase down the target was thwarted when rain interrupted play for almost the hour.
