KFC to sponsor Twenty20 cricket in Australia
Cricket Australia has announced that national restaurant chain, KFC, has become Twenty20 cricket’s naming
rights sponsor for the 2005-06 season.
The partnership means that Australia’s first ever domestic Twenty20 competition which begins on 6 January
will be known as the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash.
Australia will also face South Africa in the inaugural KFC Twenty20 international match on Australian soil
in Brisbane on 9 January.
The KFC Twenty20 Big Bash is shaping up as the most exciting innovation in domestic cricket since the
introduction of the original Australasian limited-overs competition in 1969-70.
Cricket Australia Chief Executive James Sutherland said that both international and domestic Twenty20
cricket will benefit from KFC’s marketing strength, driving awareness through more than 500 stores around the
country.
“We’re excited to have secured the support of KFC for the new Twenty20 cricket action that kicks off in
January 2006, and its contribution enables us to bring a new concept like this to life.
“The Twenty20 product is innovative, entertaining, fun and aimed at a new cricket audience - partnering
with a brand like KFC is a great fit,” said Mr Sutherland.
KFC will enjoy on-pitch, in stadia and perimeter branding rights and use of Twenty20 branding for marketing
purposes.
KFC Australia Marketing Director, Dominic Quin, is equally delighted that KFC will play a role in bringing
Twenty20 cricket to Australians.
“Twenty20 around the world has brought people together to enjoy cricket like never before with its carnival
atmosphere, and KFC believe that its customers will love every minute of it.”
“KFC is excited that it will play a big part in bringing Australians together this summer to enjoy Twenty20
cricket and the fun that comes with the exciting new concept,” said Mr Quin.
The Twenty20 Big Bash commences on 6 January with the final to be staged on 21 January 2006.
