Brannen, Abney to make All-Star appearances

NBL Philips Championship Brisbane Bullets import Bobby Brannen has been named to replace Brant Bailey for the World All-Stars in the 2005 NBL All-Star Game, while Townsville’s Larry Abney will now compete in the Dunk Competition in place of injured star Rashad Tucker.

Brannen has been given the opportunity to show his stuff at the Virgin Blue Velocity NBL All-Star Game after the New Zealand Breakers waived Bailey from their 2005-06 roster, making him ineligible for the All-Star Game.

Brannen has been on fire in recent weeks, averaging 15.9 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 22 appearances for the Bullets this season. The 202cm forward will now make his All-Star debut on 27 December at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.

Abney, who stands 203cm tall, has been added to the field for the Philips Dunk Competition after an injury to Melbourne Tigers guard Rashad Tucker forced him to withdraw. It will be the popular Croc’s first appearance in the event and caps what has already been an impressive debut season as a Philips Championship import.

The Dunk Competition will feature some of the most exciting aerial artists in the Philips Championship. The first round for the event will be held prior to the NBL All-Star Game with the final to take place at half time.

Abney will join local Sydney favourite Rolan Roberts (Sydney Kings), Liam Rush (Perth Wildcats), Cortez Groves (Wollongong Hawks), Pero Vasiljevic (West Sydney Razorbacks) and Everard Bartlett (New Zealand) in the event.
