Dogs' skipper does knee again

Footy '06 @ Sports Australia Western Bulldogs Captain Luke Darcy today ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during this morning’s training session.

This is the same knee Darcy injured during the Western Bulldogs round 6 match against Geelong at Skilled Stadium. Scans on Darcy’s knee this afternoon confirmed he will miss season 2006 with the injury.

Senior Coach Rodney Eade said, “Luke’s injury is very unfortunate as he had been training well during his rehabilitation. With Luke out for the season, Tom Davidson will be given an opportunity to press for senior selection."

"As with this season, our young players will be given extra opportunity to lead our side and further develop their talents.”

Davidson, 21, was only added to the rookie list last week after a supporter came forward pledging money to aid the Bulldogs in covering the costs of a rookie-listed player.

Bulldogs' president David Smorgon echoed his coach's sentiments, "In 10 days time it's a new year, it's 2006, a new season and unfortunately the Bulldogs will be taking the ground without Luke Darcy."

"But I can assure all Bulldog fans we'll be out there and we'll be going to improve - even more so - than what we did over the last year."

Brad Johnson has been named club captain in Darcy's absence.
