NSW Waratahs winger Wendell Sailor has been suspended for one match and fined for inappropriate behaviour while intoxicated in Cape Town on Friday night.

Sailor appeared before the Waratahs Disciplinary Committee chaired by NSWRU Chief Executive Officer Fraser Neill, Team Manager Scott Harrison and player representatives Chris Whitaker and Adam Freier.

“After looking at the facts of the matter we arrived at a one game suspension which includes the loss of a match payment along with an undisclosed fine,” Mr Neill.

“It’s obviously disappointing to see this happen and we find it totally unacceptable behaviour, as does Wendell.”

Sailor admitted he was out drinking on Friday night after being ruled out of Saturday’s match against the Stormers with a hamstring strain.

“It’s going to hurt me missing this game, it hurt me missing last week’s game and I think that was half the reason I went out on Friday night,” Sailor said after the hearing.

“I’m pretty disappointed with myself, obviously a very depressing day for me today as we really should have been talking about what a good win it was by the Waratahs.”

Sailor also apologised to supporters, family, friends and teammates and will return home tomorrow from the tour.

Fraser Neill said the Disciplinary Committee was eager to deal with the matter swiftly.

NSW Waratahs “These things must be dealt with expediently but never at the cost of due process and that’s what we’ve followed here under NSW protocols,” said Mr Neill.

“We have also asked for clarification on the ARU’s suspended sentence given to Wendell in South Africa last year to ensure we have been consistent with our approach.”
