Aussie Bobsleigh team slides out of contention
Brad Wall’s Winter Olympic campaign has ended as quickly as it began with the Australian crashing out of
contention in the first run of the men’s giant slalom this morning (AEDST) in Torino.
The 26-year-old Australian, who hails from Jindabyne in south-western New South Wales, had his skis slide
from under him when endeavouring a sharp turn, falling viciously into the Torino slopes with an initial fear
for his safety.
He did, however, escape injury.
Wall was by no means unaccompanied in that regard, with a total of 38 competitors failing to negotiate
either the first or second runs, with another participant ejected from the event.
The event’s eventual winner was Austria’s Benjamin Raich, with Frenchman Joel Tenal finishing second, and
another Austrian, Hermann Maier, taking bronze.
Meanwhile, the Australian women’s bobsleigh team of Astrid Loch-Wilkinson and Kylie Reed had a
disappointing start to their campaign overnight, being placed 14th after the first run of competition.
