Sharks and Bulldogs head down South

National Rugby League A huge crowd is expected at Mollymook Oval on Saturday February 18 when the Canterbury Bulldogs take on the Cronulla Sharks in the first-ever official NRL Trial to be conducted in the Shoalhaven.

The Bulldogs are expected to come out with all guns blazing as their huge pack of forwards led by Roy Asotasi and Mark O'Meley will be keen to take on the likes of fiery Cronulla recruit Lance Thompson and Hutch Maiava with fans also catching glimpses of household names in Kimmorley, Bailey and Ross from the Sharks and Ryan, Sherwin and El Masri for the Dogs.

Hosted by the Milton-Ulladulla Rugby League Club, as rugby league fans of all generations will have a once-in-a-lifetime to see the cream of Sydney’s two major rugby league teams do battle.

Despite an average prior season, the Bulldogs will be bringing a full strength 24-man squad to Ulladulla which includes a host of Test, Origin and representative players.

Coach Steve Folkes is desperate to close up the five-eighth position after Braith Anasta was attracted to the Roosters which gives former Dragons star Daniel Holdsworth the opportunity to show his wears.

Holdsworth is one of four major players, along with Billy Ngawini and Ben Roberts and City Origin utility Reni Maitua, who is also a likely candidate to challenge Holdsworth for the vacant pivot spot.

The Sharks have also purchased several good players in the off-season and of great interest will be the showing of former Panthers prop-forward Ben Ross, former fiery Dragons backrower Lance Thompson and former Bulldog Hutch Maiava who inhabits 120-kilograms of sheer destruction.

With gates opening at 1:30pm, tickets are now on sale $20 an adult, $10 pensioners/child over five years of age.

Tickets are available through Sandra Bishop on (02) 4455 1605 or at Ulladulla Sweets on the Park, Blue Waters Takeaway, Mollymook Newsagency, Tallwood Avenue Newsagency and Milton Newsagency.

The main game will commence at 6:00pm after the Jersey Flegg clash, which will start at 4:00pm.

Hosted by the Milton Ulladulla Rugby League, an Ulladulla Summer Games Event.
