Green wins first NBL weekly award

NBL Philips Championship New Zealand Breakers import Brian Green has captured his first ever National Basketball League (NBL) Philips Player of the Week award after taking out the honour with two outstanding Round 22 Philips Championship performances.

The 193cm forward was inspirational for the Breakers in Round 22, as his side went 2-0 against top-eight sides the Sydney Kings and Hunter Pirates. Green averaged 25.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steal for the week.

Having played just 15 NBL games with the Breakers, Green has found his feet and proven invaluable for New Zealand in the latter part of the season. The Breakers recorded an impressive 116-98 win over the Pirates on Friday night in Newcastle, with the American collecting a game-high 26 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal.

Green then backed up on Sunday as the Breakers brought the stunning home run of the Sydney Kings to an end with an upset 115-104 victory over the minor premiers at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
