NSW Waratah and Wallaby Wendell Sailor has sealed his club Rugby future and will link with Northern Suburbs
for the next two seasons.
In a major coup for the club, Sailor will play for Norths when he is not required for NSW or Australia.
He will also do some promotional duties in and around the Cabana Bar and Lounge – the club’s licensed
premises in St Leonards.
Norths CEO John Tully and Rugby Operations Manager Grant Richardson sealed the deal for Sailor’s services
at the weekend with his management group.
“His representative commitments will obviously eat into his playing time with us but it just further
underlines that we are a club going places,” Tully said.
“To have someone of Dell’s standing come to Norths shows that the restructure we undertook of our Rugby and
licensed club operations is starting to bear fruit.”
Since the end of 2005 the club has appointed Darren Coleman, the brightest young coach on the Australian
scene, and recruited NSW Waratahs Sam Norton-Knight and Troy Takiari amongst others.
Sailor is set to play his first Super 14 game as a Waratah against the Queensland Reds at Suncorp Stadium
on Saturday February 11.
The game will be telecast live on a giant 12m wall screen at the Cabana Bar and Lounge.
Wendell Sailor has played 37 Tests for the Wallabies since he made his debut against France in 2002,
scoring 65 points from 13 tries in that time.
He played 43 games for the Queensland Reds on the back of a rugby league career with the Brisbane Broncos
that saw him play State of Origin and Test football.
In other news from the Waratahs today;
NSW Rugby has added another heavy hitter to its already impressive list of corporate partners, with the
signing of a new, two year deal with telecommunications giant Vodafone.
The mobile phone carrier will debut as sleeve sponsor of the Waratahs in this weekend’s Rotomahana
Challenge match against the Crusaders at Aussie Stadium.
“Vodafone is one of the world’s biggest brands and NSW Rugby is Australia’s biggest Union, so the partnership
is a good fit,” NSWRU Chief Executive Fraser Neill said.
The new deal will also see Vodafone become the official telecommunications supplier for NSW Rugby, the
Wallabies, and Australia’s three other provincial unions for the next three years.
Over the coming months Vodafone will provide further detail of its plans to tackle the small business
market as it continues to expand the range of services it will offer to help businesses realise true mobility
and improved competitiveness.
Vodafone will also enhance its ‘Delight’ loyalty program for its customers by offering ‘money can’t buy
opportunities’ to supporters of all Super 14 teams and the Wallabies.
