Force Gold defeat Japanese tourists
Western Force Gold has recorded its maiden victory, defeating Toshiba 38-0 at Tompkins Park in Perth on
Saturday afternoon.
Force Gold, representing Western Australia during the Super 14 off-season, rebounded from the narrow
four-point defeat to Manu Samoa last weekend with a dominant six tries to nil performance today.
The match was only four minutes in when scrumhalf Matt Henjak crossed for the first try. The return to
Rugby of inside-centre Lachlan MacKay is on hold, replaced by Junior Pelesasa after only six minutes.
Toshiba was reduced to 14 with the sin binning of Sione Kepu in the 19th minute. However, the Force Gold
failed to post any points with the one-man advantage.
Winger Brett Stapleton crossed for the second try in the 30th minute, while Henjak crossed for his second,
four minutes before the half time break.
Fullback Ryan Lenegan made it two from three with the conversion attempts as the home side went to the
sheds leading 19-0.
Force Gold had to work for second half points, with forward Luke Holmes in the sin bin for the first nine
minutes of the half.

Fifteen minutes elapsed before Pelesasa scored the fourth try, though it came after Toshiba had pressured
the hosts at the other end of the park.
Prop Angus Scott and flanker Will Brock came on with 23 minutes to play, while Toshiba had another player,
Oto, sent to the sin-bin in the 59th minute.
Unlike in the first half with the one-man advantage, the home side crossed for the final two tries of the
game. Pelesasa and Stapleton both recipients of a second try each.
Stapleton ran 50 metres and dodged four potential Toshiba tacklers for his 64th minute try. Lenegan
finished with four conversions, unable to convert the last attempt.
The hosts made several changes in the final 10 minutes and ran out the match without any further addition
to the scoreline.
Next match, the Western Force Gold hosts another Japanese touring team, Yamaha. Scheduled for Saturday
August 12, the match venue is yet to be determined, though a 7:00pm kick-off has been
pencilled in.
