Cats record impressive victory

VFL Wrap - Round 16

Footy '06 @ Sports Australia Geelong (15.16.106) defeated the Bendigo Bombers (10.19.79) at Skilled Stadium on Saturday.

Geelong have been a much improved side under Leigh Tudor this season and the win over the Bombers further proved why they will go a long way to challenging Sandringham for the premiership in September.

Kent Kingsley kicked six goals and young ruckman Mark Blake was best on ground for the Cats.

The Northern Bullants (17.16.118) defeated Werribee (14.8.92) at Bartercard Oval.

Werribee were confident of rebounding from a nail biting loss to Box Hill last week with a win over the Bullants, but this never eventuated as the Barry Mitchell coached ladder leaders were all class.

Callum Chambers, Adrian DeLuca and Digby Morrell kicked three goals each, with Daniel Harford best on ground for the Bullants.

At Frankston City Oval, Frankston (15.17.107) defeated the Box Hill Hawks (13.10.88)

After a close win at home over Werribee last week, Box Hill were confident of recording another win but this didn’t happen as the Hawks failed to prevent in form Frankston full forward Aaron Edwards from kicking goals.

Edwards booted five goals and Chris Fortnam was named best on ground for the Dolphins.

North Ballarat (16.11.107) defeated Williamstown (10.14.74) at Burbank Oval on Sunday.

Williamstown have been consistent in virtually every home game this season, but they were given a reality check when North Ballarat beat them to record an otherwise rare win away from home.

Steve Dinnell kicked five goals in a best on ground performance for the Roosters.

At Coburg City Oval, the Coburg Tigers (11.17.83) defeated Port Melbourne (11.12.78).

Coburg has continued to impress this season in contrast to last season where they struggled for consistency and didn’t make the finals. Port Melbourne again put in a good performance, but they were unable to get over the line in a nail biter.

Dean Limbach kicked seven goals and former Hawthorn rookie Paul Shelton was best on ground for the Tigers.

Both Tasmania and the Casey Scorpions both had byes this week.
