Border appointed fourth selector
Cricket Australia has announced that former Australian Test captain Allan Border would be appointed with
immediate effect as the fourth member of the National Selection Panel (NSP).
Alan Border rejoins the NSP having served as a selector between 1998 - 2005.
Speaking about his appointment, Border said: "I have always loved working as a selector and only stood down
because of other time constraints.
"My circumstances have now changed and I am very happy to once again make myself available for this
important role in Australian cricket.
"I am delighted Cricket Australia's Board of Directors have given me their full support today and am
looking forward to working with Chairman of Selectors Andrew Hilditch, and the two other selectors David Boon
and Merv Hughes."
On making the appointment, Cricket Australia Chairman Creagh O'Connor said: "Allan’s credentials are second
to none and his previous success in this role will be a valuable asset to the National Selection Panel and
Cricket Australia."
Chairman of the NSP, Andrew Hilditch, said: "I'm very pleased Allan has put himself forward once again to
be a selector.
"We worked together well under the previous Chairmanship of Trevor Hohns and with David Boon and
Merv Hughes we have a quartet of expertise and experience that completely understands Australian cricket, the
demands of the Test and one-day arena and is completely committed to ensuring the ongoing success of the
Australian cricket team."
Border captained Australia a record 93 times, with 32 wins. He played 156 Tests and 273 One Day
Internationals for Australia between 1978 and 1994 and held the world record of 11,174 Test runs from 1993
up until Brian Lara passed that figure in 2005.
