WACA finalises Warriors Squad for 2006-07
The Western Australian Cricket Association has finalised the Western Warriors squad for the forthcoming
season, with a number of players being rewarded for good performances in the WACA District League.
Shawn Gillies and Clint Heron have both been offered contracts after making their First Class debuts last
summer while former rookie contracted players Aaron Heal and Andrew James have been upgraded to full
contracts after good seasons for Perth and University respectively.
Claremont-Nedlands paceman Tim MacDonald has also been added to the squad after an incredible WACA District
League season that saw him snare 70 wickets at 11.63.
Warriors Coach Wayne Clark said that making sure the core of the squad stayed together and rewarding
players who performed well in club cricket were the key factors when awarding contracts for 2006-07.
"We're pretty confident that the core of our group has what it takes to win silverware in the domestic
competitions and keeping them all in Warriors colours was our aim," Clark said.
"To be able to then offer contracts to guys that have consistently performed at club level was important
in adding depth to the squad and shows the faith that we have in the WACA District League."
Three other new players have been added to the Warriors rookie squad, with Gosnells batsman Luke
Pomersbach, Scarborough all rounder Theo Doropoulos and former Victorian leg spinner Josh Mangan all being
awarded rookie contracts.
Beau Casson is the only major departure from the 2005-06 squad, with Murray Goodwin and Ryan Campbell
retiring while Brad Williams and rookie Justin Coetzee were not offered new contracts.
