FFA releases Glory midfielder to QPR
Football Federation Australia (FFA) today reluctantly agreed to release Perth Glory midfielder and Hyundai
A-League Rising Star, Nick Ward, to English Championship League Club Queens Park Rangers (QPR).
Ward, exercising a pre-existing clause in his contract, recently trialled with QPR during the A-League
off-season and last night an offer for his services was accepted by his management, but required FFA approval
to be ratified. FFA approval was granted last night to Ward’s management to proceed with the transfer
details.
FFA Head of Operations, Matt Carroll, was disappointed that Nick Ward is pursuing his football career
overseas.
“It’s disappointing to see one of our best local footballers wanting to leave the A-League to pursue his
football career in a second-tier competition in England. With our recent move into Asia, including the Asian
Cup and Asian Champions league, there are many more opportunities for Nick to develop his international
standing and experience in Australia rather than in England.
“Nick has taken this decision on the advice of his management, and against the advice of the Australian
national team management who believe his playing prospects would have been better served remaining at Perth
Glory and gaining valuable match time.
“The FFA will continue to recruit players for the Perth Glory squad with further announcements expected in
the coming weeks. We have also received a number of applications for the Head coaching position and should be
in a position to make an announcement prior to the commencement of the Pre-Season Cup.
“In relation to the ongoing management of the club, there has also been a fantastic response to the senior
management positions advertised within Perth Glory with many well credentialed applicants showing interest.
Once the deadline (30th June 2006) passes we will be looking to interview and appoint shortly afterwards.
