Roosters re-sign Star trio

Sydney Roosters The Sydney Roosters have today announced the re-signing of club captain Craig Fitzgibbon for next season.

In addition to Fitzgibbon, the club has also re-signed exciting youngster Shaun Foley, while late last week announced veteran fullback Anthony Minichiello had extended his stay.

Fitzgibbon, the leading points scorer for the foundation club - formerly known as Eastern Suburbs, confirmed he had not spoken to any other clubs despite reports the new franchise, the Gold Coast Titans, were interested in gaining his services.

“Next year is the Roosters’ 100th season and to be a part of it will be a great honour.”

“There has been much speculation about my future but the truth is I never spoke to another club and as captain of a foundation club, why would I want to be anywhere else?”

“The job is now for the players to pull together to see what we can get out of this season.”

Foley is another to sign on the dotted line for season 2007 and beyond, remaining with the Roosters until the end of 2008.

The 19-year-old made his first grade debut a fortnight ago when selected at fullback in the team that lost to the New Zealand Warriors (round 14). Team officials and fellow players have been impressed with his form in the Jersey Flegg competition.

Meanwhile, Minichiello has signed for a further three seasons, and will become a 10-year club veteran in the final year (2009) of the new contract.

“I’m looking forward to being a one-club player and in particular I’m looking forward to celebrating our 100th season next year,” Minichiello said.

Minichiello has returned to the training track, following back surgery in May. He hopes to be available for selection again over the next 4-6 weeks.
