Victoria to unveil details of new team in August
Less than a month after Rugby’s decision to create a new National Competition, the Victorian Rugby Union is
already well down the track to establishing their new team for the eight-team competition.
The VRU has finalised its business plan and will unveil major details in August.
VRU President Gary Gray and General Manager Ron Steiner are in Sydney today, meeting with the Australian
Rugby Union to finalise their strategic plan for the new team.
“We have already received expressions of interest from potential players, coaches and team management,
including Australians who are currently playing and coaching in the Northern hemisphere,” Ron Steiner
said.
“We are also confident that many of the Victorians who are currently playing at the elite level will be
very keen to represent their home State in this competition.
“Putting in place our strategic and business plans are our first priorities. We will then work on our new
team name, logo, playing strip, home ground, sponsors, coaching staff and support personnel.
“We are well on track with these things and are buoyed by the support we are getting from the local Rugby
and business communities who are keen to see Victorian Rugby make a big impact on the national stage.”
ARU Chief Operating Officer Rob Clarke praised Victoria for their proactive approach.
“There is a lot of work to do in a short time, so we set a deadline of this Friday to finalise business
plans from each of the teams,” Clarke said.
“It is great to see the VRU on the front foot, harnessing the great enthusiasm for Rugby in Victoria, and
no doubt the other States will be following their lead.”
