Knights topple Bulldogs
The Newcastle Knights have secured an impressive 46-22 victory over the Canterbury Bulldogs at Energy
Australia Stadium tonight, courtesy of three tries to pacey fullback Milton Thaiday.
For the Knights, Thaiday was sublime, sliding over for three four-pointers, while Andrew Johns was on-song
with the boot, kicking six conversions and three penalties.
For the Bulldogs, there were no standouts, apart from point-scoring machine Hazem El Masri, who scored his
sixth try from three games, and booted three conversions.
The Knights began the game superbly, dominating proceedings, possession and territory early on, and forced
the Bulldogs to concede four penalties.
Surprisingly, the Bulldogs did lead at one stage in the first half, after “El Magic” crossed the line for
his first and only try of the night, giving the Bulldogs a 6-4 lead, after Johns had earlier booted two
penalties for Newcastle.
The Knights then produced the immediate reply, with barnstorming winger Brian Carney able to slide over,
giving Newcastle a 10-6 lead, after Johns was able to slot another penalty.

The 26th minute was the turning point of the game, as the Knights had managed to survive three consecutive
sets of six from the Dogs, without surrendering any points.
Four scintillating consecutive tries to Newcastle before half-time put Canterbury all but out of contention
for the win, with the Knights leading 36-4 at the break.
After the half-time break, all hopes of a Bulldogs come-back victory were dashed, with replacement forward
Todd Lowrie and Thaiday sliding over for the first two tries of the half, sending the Knights up 46-6.
Despite the scoreboard looking ever so bleak for the Dogs, Canterbury managed to slide over for three
consolation tries before full-time to restore respectability to the scoreboard, with the final score reading
a healthy 46-22 Newcastle victory.
Next week, the Knights play host to the Warriors on Sunday afternoon, while the Bulldogs have the week off
for a bye.
