Cricket Australia announces contracted players list
Cricket Australia today announced its list of 25-contracted players for the next 12 months as chosen by the
National Selection Panel (NSP).
James Hopes, Cameron White and Mick Lewis have not had their contracts renewed, while Stuart Clark, Phil
Jacques and Mitchell Johnson (who were upgraded to Cricket Australia contracts last season) have been offered
full contracts.
Brett Dorey, who was also up-graded to a contract after selection for several VB Series matches last
summer, has not been offered a full contract.
The NSP nominate the 25 players based on the following criteria:
- The form of the players over the past 12 months; and
- Their likelihood of Australian selection over the next 12 months taking into account who Australia plays,
balance of the side and the need to ensure the future development of the Test and one-day international
team.

The contracted players are paid a base retainer, which is levelled according to a player ranking system
decided by the NSP. Each player also receives match fees, tour fees and prize money for on-field success.
NSP Chairman Andrew Hilditch said selectors had chosen an evenly balanced list of senior players combined
with some of Australia’s young emerging talent.
“We are very pleased with the balance of the list. There are some very experienced players amongst the
group along with some younger players who have performed very well at domestic level,” said Hilditch.
“Our charter is to rank the players based on their performances over the past 12 months, combined with how
much of a role we anticipate they will play in the coming 12 months.
“It is often quite a balancing act but we are confident in the squad of players that we’ve selected.
“We have some major tournaments and series on the horizon in the Ashes and World Cup, and we have selected
this group of players with these campaigns in mind.
“However, as we have seen with Stuart Clark, Phil Jacques, Brett Dorey and Mitchell Johnson last season,
other players can be added to the squad if their performances warrant selection.
“Phil Jaques, Stuart Clark and Mitchell Johnson have all performed very well over the past 12 months and
have been rewarded with contracts, while James Hopes, Michael Lewis, Cameron White and Brett Dorey’s contracts
haven’t been renewed on this occasion.
“However, they are quality players and we look forward to them performing well in domestic cricket and
putting their name forward again for future selections.”
