VFL Wrap - Round Seven
The Bendigo Bombers (22.8.140) recorded their first win for season 2006 when they defeated Tasmania
(16.19.115) at Windy Hill on Saturday.
After failing to record a in the first six rounds of this season, the Bombers finally recorded a win but it
wasn’t without a fight put up by a Tasmania side that has continued on with form from last season where it
played finals football after a slow start.
Jason Winderlich put his hand up for selection in the Essendon team, kicking five goals in a best on ground
performance for the Bombers.
At TEAC Oval, the Box Hill Hawks (26.13.139) also recorded their first win for the season; they defeated
Port Melbourne (17.6.108).
Simon Taylor backed up from his good performance against Werribee last week, booting five goals and Jordan
Lewis was best on ground for the Hawks.
Northern Bullants (8.11.59) defeated Frankston (6.6.42) at the Australian Motor Finance Oval.
Digby Morrell and Barnaby French both kicked two goals for the Bullants.
Daniel Harford was best on ground as he continues to be one of the best performed players so far this
season, his first since retiring from the AFL.
The Casey Scorpions (14.14.98) overcame a spirited Williamstown outfit (9.12.66) at Casey Fields
yesterday.
Allan Murray kicked three goals for the Scorpions and Mark McGough is again a chance to be included in the
St Kilda team, after being named best on ground for the Scorpions.
Coburg Tigers (16.10.106) defeated North Ballarat (9.7.61) at the Coburg City Oval in what was billed as
the battle to see whether or not Saverio Rocca could kick another bag of goals for the Roosters.
Greg Stafford and Cleve Hughes both kicked four goals for Coburg, while Richmond youngster Matt White was
best on ground.
Rocca was held to two goals, but still topped the goal kickers list for the Roosters.
Geelong (25.16.166) had a comfortable 56 point win over Werribee (17.8.110) at Chirnside Park.
A full strength Geelong side dominated all day against a Werribee side that played an extremely
undisciplined brand of football.
Tom Lonergan and Andrew Mackie both booted five goals for the Cats, with Mackie also receiving the Andrew
Bews medal for being named best on ground.
Werribee spearhead, James Podsiadly, continued his consistent form kicking three goals for the Tigers.
