Hawks continue to improve

VFL Wrap - Round Eight

Footy '06 @ Sports Australia The Box Hill Hawks (18.18.126) continued to erase their dismal start to season 2006 when they defeated North Ballarat (15.17.107) at the Box Hill City Oval on Saturday.

In what was a hard fought contest, it was the Hawks who came way from the match satisfied as they continue to get their season back on track after recording five consecutive losses from the first five rounds.

Matt Little continued his consistent form, kicking three goals and Luke Brennan was best on ground for the Hawks as he continues his comeback from injury.

Saverio Rocca kicked four goals in a day that saw him not topping the goal kicking for the Roosters; it was Kangaroos rookie Djaran Whyman who topped the list with five.

Werribee (17.10.102) recorded win number three for the season, after they defeated the Casey Scorpions (15.14.104) at Reid Oval in Warrnambool.

Tigers spearhead James Podsiadly booted five goals and youngster Jarrod Young was named best on ground on his 21st birthday.

St Kilda listed player Justin Sweeney continues to show why the Saints plucked him from the obscurity of country football at the last national draft, with an impressive best on ground performance and four goals.

At Bellerive Oval, the Northern Bullants (15.13.103) overcame a Tasmanian outfit (10.9.69) that struggled to apply any sort of scoreboard pressure during the second half.

Jade Rawlings and Ben Beams both kicked four for the Devils, with Justin Plapp best on ground.

Andrew Carrazzo made the most of his opportunity to impress, being best on ground for the Bullants and putting his hand up to be included in the Carlton side next week.

Yesterday at Skilled Stadium, Geelong (18.9.117) played out a close tussle against Sandringham (13.17.95).

Adam Cook and Nick Batchelor both kicked three goals each and Tim Callan was best on ground for the Cats.

Shannon Motlop proved his worth as a goal kicking option, kicking four for the Zebras.

Williamstown (12.7.79) defeated Frankston (8.14.62) at the Frankston City Oval.

Dean Galea kicked three goals for the Seagulls and Chad Morrison silenced the critics after being dropped from the Collingwood side to be best on ground.

The Bendigo Bombers (17.14.116) defeated Port Melbourne (14.17.101) at Teac Oval.

Jason Johnson kicked three goals and Damien Peverill was best on ground for the Bombers.

Both Johnson and Peverill will be almost certain to be recalled to an Essendon side that has recorded just one win so far this season.

The Coburg Tigers had a bye this week.
