Sydney FC signs Adam Griffiths
Monday June 4, 2012
Sydney FC coach Ian Crook has continued to re-shape the Sky Blues squad for the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League with experienced defender-midfielder Adam Griffiths unveiled as the latest signing today.
The 32-year-old, who was born and bred in the Sutherland Shire in Sydney, has been signed by Crook as a central defender who can also play as a midfielder.
Griffiths joins Sydney FC after spending two years in China where he played with Hangzhou during the 2010 and 2011 Chinese Super League seasons.
“We’re delighted that Adam has agreed to join Sydney FC,” said Sydney FC Coach Ian Crook. “He is a very talented player who fits in with what we are trying to put together at Sydney FC.
“Adam is a Sydney boy, he’s hungry and has a winning mentality, something he has proven in the past. He’s also got good pace, he’s experienced and he gives us not only a very strong central defender but some versatility.”
Griffiths put pen to paper today after passing a medical examination last week and trained with his new team mates for the first time this morning.
“I’m really happy to be joining Sydney FC, it’s like coming home for me,” Griffiths said. “I grew up in the Sutherland Shire, I played all my early football in Sydney and to be playing for Sydney FC is fantastic.
“I look forward to giving everything I’ve got for Sydney FC. It’s a big club with ambitions to win things and that suits me. It’s a bonus to play in front of family and friends, as well as the Sydney FC fans.”
