Thunder into Sydney
Friday June 15, 2012
The Adelaide Thunderbirds broke a two game losing streak with a hard fought win over the Queensland Firebirds in Brisbane last week.
Losses to the Central Pulse by one and Melbourne Vixens by eight goals respectively, put things into perspective for the premiership contenders.
An added challenge of maintaining a top four ladder position with a win over the NSW Swifts sees them treating the last three regular season games like mini finals.
“Coming from the Swifts I know their culture and I know that they just have this drive to win,” said Thunderbirds goal attack Erin Bell.
“They were down by (seven goals) against Fever last week and they managed to come back because they know they can win.
“They’re quick, they’re fast and move the ball quick which is a bit different to Queensland so we’ll have to adjust to that as well.”
The Swifts have gone under the radar for much of this year’s ANZ Championship season and they have quality everywhere.
Bell highlighted three players in particular that she and her Thunderbirds teammates will need to contain on court come Sunday.
“I don’t think you can do past Susan Pratley in the goal circle, Kim Green in the middle (court) and Mo’onia Gerrard down the back.
“They’re three massive names, all Australian players and they’ll definitely have to be stopped for us to get on top of them.”
