Stosur sets up quarterfinal clash with Serena Williams
Tuesday June 1, 2010
Samantha Stosur has stormed into the quarterfinals of the French Open with a stunning 2-6 6-1 6-4 victory over the “Queen of Clay” No.22 seed Justine Henin.
It was Henin’s first loss at the French Open in 24 matches since 2004, making Stosur only the fifth player to defeat her at Roland Garros.
“This is definitely one of the biggest occasions of my career, to beat Justine here at Roland Garros,” Stosur said after her match.
“That’s quite a winning streak here, that definitely makes it that little bit extra special, not only to beat her but to beat her in her own backyard is definitely a great feeling.”
On her quarterfinal match-up against the world No.1 Serena Williams, Stosur said ”I’m excited, [and will] try and go into it approaching it the same way that I did today, and go out there and enjoy the moment, and I know I’m going to have to play well.
“She always plays well at Grand Slams, especially at this point of time in the tournament, so I know I’m going to have to play well to beat her, but I’m enjoying every minute of it.”
