Sydney's play a washout
The second day's play in the Pura Cup clash between New South Wales and
Queensland in Sydney was today abandoned without a ball bowled due to persistent
rain and a water-logged outfield.
Players took an early lunch shortly after midday due to early-morning rain,
with play eventually called off approximately five hours later at 5:17pm local
time.
The Blues were looking to resume at 1-6, in arrears of the Bulls' first
innings total of 266, with Michael Phelps unbeaten on three.
Phil Jaques (2) was dismissed on the last ball of the first day, after
Queensland fought back valiantly with the bat earlier in the day, moving from
5-89 to eventually post a respectable 266.
When quizzed, Bulls veteran quick Michael Kasprowicz was pessimistic about
the pitch conditions for batting.
"It's a strange wicket - it's got a real crust to it.
"A few times (on day one) we saw the ball either stopping or being two-paced.
"It's going to be interesting with chunks of the wicket coming out already,"
Kasprowicz said.
Looking to the rest of the match, the Test discard was optimistic, "There's a
good belief in the team - whatever the situation, we always believe we have a
chance," he said.

Kasprowicz also insinuated that Queensland's first innings total of 266 was
more than reasonable considering the state of the pitch, especially after
collapsing to be five down without entering triple figures.
The Bulls appear to be out of favour with the heaven's above, with every
four-day match they've played in this season delayed at some point due to
rain.
Tomorrow's play will resume half an hour earlier from 10:30am.
