Hewitt delivers again
Australian tennis star Lleyton Hewitt has delivered again, but this time it was the most important delivery
of his life as he became a father to his new-born daughter.
Hewitt’s wife, actress Bec Cartwright, gave birth to a healthy baby girl at Sydney’s North Shore Private
Hospital early on Tuesday morning and, as expected, it has been reported that both parents are ecstatic.
At this stage, the new parents have not announced a name for the new addition to their family.
Cartwright has been a regular member of the Hewitt camp since the 2005 Australian Open.
Hewitt, who finished the year at number four in the ATP entry rankings, proposed on the same night he lost
his chance to lift the 2005 Australian Open trophy, being outplayed by Russian star Marat Safin.
Soon after, they announced that they were expecting their first child, adding to their whirlwind
relationship that later saw the couple marry with an extravagant wedding ceremony in July.
All of this occurred after Hewitt ended a four-year relationship with ex-fiancé and fellow tennis star,
Belgium’s Kim Clijsters, late last year. He was due to tie the knot with Clijsters in February.
Hewitt’s dedication to his wife and bub saw him decide against playing the recent season-ending Tennis
Masters Cup to assure he would be by his wife’s side when the baby was born.
Many would say that becoming a parent brings greater responsibilities and it is now up to Hewitt to show he
can deal with the dual task of fatherhood and life on a testing professional tennis circuit.
