Sydney Uni's Nat Porter Player of the Month

WNBL Defence Jobs Championship Sydney Uni Flames power forward Natalie Porter has been named the WNBL Player of the Month for October.

The 185cm force was twice awarded the Nivea Player of the Week during the first month of competition in which Sydney Uni recorded wins over Townsville in Townsville, Bulleen in Bulleen, Dandenong in Dandenong and Perth in Sydney and two home losses to Dandenong and Townsville.

Porter, a 2004 Olympian, amassed 110 points at 18.3ppg, 46 rebounds, 21 assists, seven blocked shots and three steals in just over 200 minutes on court.

“Thank you, I’m very happy about that,” said Porter. “That’s awesome.”

“We have gotten off to a pretty good start and the team has been playing well and I think that has lifted me.

“My main aim was to drop some weight and have a good season and it has started off that way and hopefully we can keep getting wins on the board.

“I just want to win a championship. I don’t really care how I play, I just want to win as a team and get that elusive trophy.”

Porter’s season so far:

Oct 6: Flames vs Townsville in Townsville: Porter posted a 24 point, 13 rebound double-double in Sydney Uni’s 82-73 win that earned her Nivea Player of the Week for Round One.

Oct 15: Flames vs Perth in Sydney: Porter scored 23 points with eight rebounds, six assists, two blocked shots and a steal in the Flames 97-72 win.

Oct 20: Flames vs Dandenong in Sydney: Porter contributed 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot in Sydney Uni’s 70-67 narrow loss to the Rangers.

Oct 27: Flames vs Bulleen in Bulleen: Porter scored 18 points with nine rebounds, four assists, one blocked shot and a steal in a solid 91-75 victory over Bulleen.

Oct 28: Flames vs Dandenong in Dandenong: Porter scored 17 points with six rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot in Sydney Uni’s 77-71 win.

Porter's excellent back-to-back performances during the Flames’ Victorian road trip saw her awarded Nivea Player of the Week for Round Four.

The Flames (4-2) sit third on the ladder and will take on undefeated defending champions Canberra in the Round Six ABC-TV Game of the Week at the Sydney Uni Sports and Aquatic Centre this Friday night at 7pm.
