Awesome four set for Sydney FC return

A-League Club - Sydney FC Sydney FC will be back to near full strength on Sunday with David Carney, Steve Corica, Mark Milligan and Terry McFlynn all back in action when Sydney FC takes on second-placed Adelaide United at Aussie Stadium.

Carney started the trickle last Friday night when he made a successful return to action off the bench, scoring the 4th goal in a comprehensive 4-0 win over the New Zealand Knights.

Milligan also sat on the bench without getting game time but the Australian World Cup representative will be fully fit and pressing for a starting berth on Sunday.

Carney and Milligan will be joined by midfielder Steve Corica and Terry McFlynn, who have both been passed fit to return to action when Sydney FC hosts rivals Adelaide United at Aussie Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

“It’s great to have them all back. It has been a very tough time at Sydney FC without so many key players and we look forward to having them in the squad for Sunday’s game,” Butcher said. “Any team would miss players like David Carney, Mark Milligan, Steve Corica and Terry McFlynn so having them back is a bonus.

“We saw a glimpse of the lift the side will get when Carns (David Carney) came off the bench against the Knights. He immediately gave us something extra and then he rounded off a very good 15-minute period with a quality goal.

“Quality players are very hard to come by and we have some of our quality coming back. It is very exciting ahead of the Adelaide game.”

The wave of returning stars gives Sydney FC a significant boost at a time when the side has started its climb back up the ladder with a 4-0 hammering of the hapless Knights. Sydney FC now sits in 3rd place on the Hyundai A-League ladder with second-placed Adelaide within sights and heading to Aussie Stadium this Sunday.

Sydney FC also picked up no fresh injuries against the Knights and Butcher will have 17 fit bodies to choose for the first time this season, giving him a different headache as he tries to fit the influential foursome into a side that defeated the Knights and also performed well in grabbing a 1-1 draw with the high-flying Newcastle Jets the previous weekend.

“Over the last few weeks I have been worried about who can play and how to fill the bench but now I’m having to think about who to sit on the bench and who will be unlucky to miss out altogether,” Butcher said. “It is a pleasant headache to have and shows we are back on track.”
