Bruton scores second NBL Weekly honour
Star Sydney Kings guard C.J. Bruton has taken out the National Basketball League’s (NBL) Philips Player of
the Week award for the second time this season, winning Round Seven honours after helping his side to a
strong win over the Melbourne Tigers.
Bruton narrowly edged Melbourne’s Rashad Tucker for his second Philips Player of the Week award after
his side’s impressive 116-104 victory over the Tigers at the weekend.
Bruton led the Kings to their third consecutive win, with 27 points, nine assists and six rebounds as
his side moved into outright second on the Philips Championship ladder.
Tucker can consider himself unlucky to have missed the weekly honours with 28 points, 12 rebounds, six
assists and one steal in his side’s 26-point victory over West Sydney.
Tucker also proved valuable for the Tigers in their loss to the Kings with 21 points, seven rebounds,
six assists and one steal.
Bruton, who won the Philips Player of the Month award for September, also won the weekly honours back in
Round Five, is helping his team attempt to win an unprecedented fourth consecutive title.
Other players in the running for the Philips Player of the Week award for Round Six included Chris
Anstey (Melbourne), Joel Cornette (West Sydney), Jermaine Blackburn (West Sydney), Stephen Black
(Brisbane), Jason Smith (Sydney), Cortez Groves (Wollongong), Anthony Stewart (Cairns), Tate Decker
(Cairns), Larry Abney (Townsville), Brett Maher (Adelaide), Matthew Shanahan (Perth) and Mike Helms
(Hunter).
For winning the Philips Player of the Week award this round, Bruton will receive one of Philips latest
