A-League Round 10 - Facts & Figures
The Long Trip East
Round 10 of the Hyundai A-League sees the longest road trip between Australian clubs when Perth Glory
travels to Suncorp Stadium to take on Queensland Roar on Saturday.
Traditionally, it is thought that such a long away trip means an advantage to the home team.
However, based on the overall home team winning record in the first nine Hyundai A-League rounds, combined
with the historical record of Australia's other major football leagues, the 4500km long trip from Perth to
Brisbane may not be so advantageous for the Queensland club.
In the first nine Hyundai A-League rounds, home teams have won just 13 of the 36 games so far – compared
with 16 victories for the away team.
In 19 encounters between Western Australian and Queensland clubs played in Queensland in the AFL/VFL since
1987, just nine matches were won by the home team.
And in all six matches played in Queensland between Western Australian and Queensland clubs in the
NSWRL/Super League from 1995 to 1997, the Queensland-based team won just two.
The record is even more ominous for Queensland-based football teams in the old National League; remarkably,
in eight trips by Western Australian clubs to Queensland between 1996 and 2004, no Brisbane-based team ever
recorded a victory.
League’s Best Travellers to visit Home Fortress
Something is set to give this Friday at Olympic Park Stadium when the team with the best home record,
Melbourne Victory, host the team with the best away record in Adelaide United.
After nine rounds the Victory are the only club to have avoided defeat at home winning three and drawing
one of their four home matches.
Adelaide United have the best away record having claimed victory in four out of five matches away from
Hindmarsh Stadium.
