Aussie Gymnast medals at World Championships
The World Championships in Denmark continues to produce great results for Australia with Prashanth
Sellathurai winning the silver medal in the Pommel Horse apparatus final.
Prashanth won his medal with a world class routine of 15.570 points which he scored early in the final
putting the pressure on his fellow competitors. On the second last routine of the night, China's Xiao Qin
had to produce an amazing routine (16.025 points) to snatch the gold from Australia.
CEO Jane Allen praised the work of Prashanth's coach Xiong Song Liang who has worked with Prashanth to
develop this world class routine.
"This result shows that Australia's is on track to win their first ever Olympic medal. Prashanth has
developed a routine of such a high start value that when performed well he can only be beaten by the world
Champion Xiao Qin. With two years to go, he will be working on his consistency and increasing his start
value to take on the Chinese."
Daria Joura finished sixth in the Uneven Bars final with a credible performance only marred by an extra
swing which put her out of medal contention.
This silver medal brings Australia's total medals won at World Championships to 4 medals (2 silver and
2 bronze) with a chance at one more in the High bar final tomorrow.
