Roos make key re-signings

Footy '06 @ Sports Australia The Kangaroos have re-signed five key senior players for the next two seasons.

Defenders Drew Petrie, Jess Sinclair, Daniel Pratt, Leigh Brown and utility Corey Jones have all signed on with club for seasons 2007 and 2008.

The club lodged the paperwork with the AFL recently and Kangaroos General Manager - Football Operations Donald McDonald said the signings were excellent news for the club.

“Four of these players finished Top 10 in our best and fairest award this year and to have them all committed until the end of 2008 is tremendous for our club,” McDonald said.

"It shows a real commitment to our structure and confidence in the path we are taking."

In other news; Kangaroos' high performance manager Donald McDonald has admitted some Roos fans were disappointed with the club's decision to axe popular defender Troy Makepeace.

The 27-year-old played 139 games for the Roos since debuting in 2000 but only 12 in 2006.

“It was a real hard call, Troy has been a fantastic player for us,” McDonald said.

Meanwhile, Aaron Edwards, the former West Coast Eagle who was the revelation of the 2006 VFL season, is training with the Kangaroos in a bid to resurrect his AFL career.

The Kangaroos are strongly considering drafting the 22-year-old in either the November 25 national draft or the pre-season draft - in which they have will have pick three - on December 12.
