Bingley extends Sydney FC stay to ease player shortage

A-League Club - Sydney FC Sydney FC’s player shortage has been eased slightly with experienced utility Matthew Bingley’s short term contract extended by two weeks ahead of Saturday night’s Hyundai A-League clash with Newcastle United.

Bingley is in the Sydney FC squad as cover for midfielder David Carney, who is expected to make his return from a shoulder injury when Sydney FC plays Adelaide United at Aussie Stadium on November 19.

Bingley has been with Sydney FC for the past six weeks as cover for Robbie Middleby, who returned last weekend, but Bingley has agreed to stay on for two more weeks with Carney ruled out.

The inclusion of Bingley gives Sydney FC 13 available players for Saturday night’s game against the resurgent Newcastle, which has won its past three matches.

“I’m happy to be given another two weeks,” Bingley said. “There is obviously a shortage and I am happy to help out where I can.”

Sydney FC’s squad for Saturday’s game is: Clint Bolton (gk), Iain Fyfe, Alvin Ceccoli, Ufuk Talay, Robbie Middleby, Ruben Zadkovich, David Zdrilic, Sasho Petrovski, Jeremy Brockie, Alex Brosque, Justin Pasfield (gk), Nikolai Topor-Stanley and Matthew Bingley.

Injured players are: Steve Corica (hamstring – one week), Mark Milligan (hamstring – one week), David Carney (shoulder – two weeks), Terry McFlynn (hamstring – two weeks), Jacob Timpano (groin – three weeks).

Sydney FC Captain Mark Rudan will also miss the Newcastle match through suspension after picking up his 4th yellow card of the season against Perth Glory last Sunday.
