West Coast Eagles Lodge List
The West Coast Eagles has today made its list lodgement with the AFL ahead of next month's National Draft with key position player Travis Gaspar, half-forward Damien Adkins and full-forward Brad Smith delisted.
Gaspar, 25, joined the West Coast Eagles as selection no. 14 in the 1999 National Draft and battled a series of foot injuries to play 28 games for the club, including the 2005 preliminary and grand finals.
Adkins, 25, was acquired by the West Coast Eagles in October 2002 via a trade that sent utility player Andrew Williams to Collingwood. He played 32 games for the club, for a career total of 54, and may have added to that if not for a badly broken leg sustained when representing WAFL club Perth early this year.
Smith, 27, was drafted by the West Coast Eagles with selection no. 57 in the 2004 National Draft after playing in Subiaco's premiership side and earning his second consecutive Bernie Naylor Medal as the WAFL competition's leading goal-kicker. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament in an intra-club scratch match in February 2005, requiring a knee reconstruction, before re-injuring the knee in training in January.
Other adjustments made by the club have seen midfielders Steven Armstrong and Matt Priddis added to the senior list after one season as rookies.
Both were elevated during the season in place of long-term injuries with Armstrong playing 10 games and Priddis two.
After been delisted by Melbourne at the end of last season, Armstrong completed his fairytale year with a premiership medal while Priddis was awarded the Sandover Medal as the WAFL competition's best player and was a key figure in Subiaco's premiership triumph.
Dual premiership player Drew Banfield announced his retirement at the West Coast Eagles Club Champion Awards on October 6 while Phillip Matera succumbed to a hip injury in November 2005 but was required to remain on the senior list for the duration of the season.
And Michael Embley, the younger brother of vice-captain Andrew Embley, has been delisted after three years on the club's rookie list.
Fellow rookies Ben Sharp, Ashley Thornton and Beau Wilkes, as part of AFL regulations, have served their maximum two years and will be required to nominate for the draft or rookie intake to continue their careers.
Earlier this month, ruckman Michael Gardiner and forward Andrew McDougall were traded to St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs respectively.
The West Coast Eagles has selections 16, 29, 43 and 50 in the National Draft on November 25.
