Webb wins the Danville Challenge

Weekly Wrap :: September 19 - 25

With the Ryder Cup dominating action over the weekend it was Karrie Webb who took the spotlight last week with her win at the Long Drugs Challenge from Danville California.

Webb has taken out her fourth USLPGA title with rounds of 67-70-66-70 this year holding off Swedish star Annika Sorenstam’s late charge.

The Swede had gone into the final round six shots behind Webb, only to see a seven under 65 leave her one stroke short of Webb who carded a final round 70 to take home the title.

Webb takes home the prize money of US$165,000 (A$218,658), with fellow Aussie Nadina Light the next best placed finishing in a tie for 25th, whilst the win for Webb also means she narrows the gap to the top of the ADT money list only US$100,369 behind Mexican Lorena Ochoa, increasing the gap between her and Sorenstam to US$104,345.

On the Asian Tour Marc Leishman finished tied in 26th spot at the HANA Korea Open with rounds of 70-70-72-71 leaving him on one under the card some 13 strokes behind winner Yang Yong-eun from Korea.

Looking ahead to this week, another co-sanctioned event on the European and USPGA tours sees action at the WGC-American Express Championship where Aussies Stuart Appleby, Nick O’Hern, Robert Allenby, Craig Parry and Brett Rumford take on the world’s best including a rampant Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els.

The LPGA tour heads to Mexico after a two-week break for the Corona Morelia Championship.
