Australia continues unbeaten run against New Zealand

The Australian Women’s Cricket Team has continued its unbeaten run at the ICC Women’s World Cup with a five-wicket win against New Zealand in Bristol today.

Needing 220 runs to claim victory, Australia reach 49 before opener Nicole Bolton was dismissed by Anna Peterson (2-27) for 26.

Fellow opener Beth Mooney (32) fell not long after leaving Australia on the back foot, but it was captain Meg Lanning (48) and Ellyse Perry (71) who steadied the ship. Read more

Third consecutive Shield title for Victoria

Victoria have secured a record third consecutive Sheffield Shield title, despite drawing the match with South Australia towards the end of Day Five at Traeger Park in Alice Springs.

This record winning streak was last achieved by Queensland in 2002 and is the first time for Victoria’s 125 year history.

Victoria elected to continue batting into the fifth day, setting South Australia a chase of 524 runs. Read more

Voges announces State Cricket retirement

Popular Western Warriors captain Adam Voges has today announced his retirement from domestic state cricket effective at the end of this Sheffield Shield season after a decorated 15-year career.

Voges, 37, will play at the WACA Ground for Western Australia for the final time in the Round 10 match against New South Wales from Thursday. He will also be available for the Shield final in Alice Springs against Victoria should WA qualify.

The long-serving batsman, who recently overtook John Inverarity for most wins as WA’s Sheffield Shield captain list, said it was “the right time” to retire. Read more

Australia’s path to seventh World Cup crown unveiled

The ICC has today announced the schedule for the 2017 Women’s World Cup in England with the Southern Stars to begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies on Monday 26 June at Taunton.

England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies will join Australia in the tournament beginning on June 24, with 31 matches to be staged across five venues – Lord’s, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Somerset and Gloucestershire.

Having claimed their sixth 50-over World Cup title in 2013 with a 114-run win against the West Indies in Mumbai, Australia will be out to make a statement with a strong performance against the reigning Twenty20 World Champions, followed by matches against Sri Lanka and New Zealand at Bristol. Bulls go down to Redbacks

The Queensland Bulls face a must-win Sheffield Shield clash against Tasmania next week after going down to the South Australian Redbacks by six-wickets today in Adelaide.

The loss leaves the Bulls fifth on the Shield ladder, needing success in Hobart next week to keep their finals hopes alive.

The match was in a tense position when play resumed today, with the Redbacks needing 120-runs and the Bulls another six wickets for victory. Read more

Sri Lanka secure Twenty20 series win

A brilliant innings from Asela Gunaratne has helped Sri Lanka seal a final-ball victory against Australia in the second KFC Twenty20 International tonight at Geelong’s Kardinia Park, in front of more than 13,500 people.

Middle-order batsmen Asela Gunaratne’s inspirational innings helped Sri Lanka fight back and win game two of the T20 series against Australia.

After Australia claimed five wickets in Sri Lanka’s batting power play, Gunaratne’s unbeaten 84 off 46 deliveries saw Sri Lanka home by two wickets with a boundary on the final delivery.

Sri Lanka now holds an unassailable 2-0 advantage after two final-ball results in the first two matches of the series, heading into the third and final match at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.

Earlier in the evening, Moises Henriques was the star with the bat for the hosts with an unbeaten half-century. Read more

Twenty20 squad against Sri Lanka confirmed

Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel has confirmed a 13-man squad to take on Sri Lanka in a three match Twenty20 International series being played as double-headers with the Southern Stars also taking on New Zealand at the MCG (17 February), Kardinia Park in Geelong (19 February) and Adelaide Oval (22 February).

The squad includes four uncapped players in Klinger, Richardson, Stanlake and Turner.

BBL announces expansion plans for next season

The Big Bash League is set to expand from next season, with an additional eight matches being added to the competition, Cricket Australia announced today.

The BBL|07 regular season will increase to 40 matches, from 32 this season, in addition to the existing two Semi Finals and the Final, bringing the total to 43 matches. The expansion will mean that more than 100 BBL and WBBL matches will be played next season.

With more than 1 million fans already attending matches this season, and a TV viewership average of more than a million nationally each night, the Big Bash is set for another record season, with tomorrow’s final against Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers at #TheFurnace expected to be a sell-out. New Zealand ODI Tour squad announced

The Cricket Australia National Selection Panel have named a 14-man squad for the New Zealand Tour where they will contest the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy in a three-match series.

The squad includes two changes from the current side that is playing against Pakistan.

Victorian opening batsman Aaron Finch has been re-called to the squad with vice-captain David Warner having a break. Read more

Dominant Scorchers lock in Home Semi-Final

The Perth Scorchers have stormed to the top of the KFC Big Bash League table in dramatic fashion and guaranteed a home semi-final with a seven-wicket win over the Hobart Hurricanes inside 14 overs at Blundstone Arena.

The result means Perth, currently top-placed, cannot finish lower than second, with the final table positions, including potential opponents, to be determined through the result of the currently in-play match between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers at the MCG.

The match marked a stunning return to form for Player of the Match Shaun Marsh, who bludgeoned 57 off 34 balls, including two towering sixes and seven fours to see his side to 3-135 in pursuit of Hobart’s 6-134 with 37 balls remaining. Read more
