Sunday April 2, 2017 by

With many pre-game suggesting a Melbourne cakewalk, Wellington have recorded a stunning 3-0 win at AAMI Park on Sunday night to give Des Buckingham and Chris Greenacre back-to-back wins over Kevin Muscat’s Victory.

On a night where much of the build up was focused on Besart Berisha’s quest to become the first player to strike 100 A-League goals, it was the Wellington Phoenix frontline that proved much the sharper.

The Kosovan International was well-marshalled by returning captain Andrew Durante and the quietly spoken Marco Rossi, but it was in the front third that Wellington really did their talking. Read more

Thursday March 23, 2017 by

After extensive but ultimately fruitless dialogue with Football Federation Australia regarding this weekend’s clash of A-League and International fixtures, Wellington Phoenix are calling for a concrete commitment from the governing body that International windows will be integrated into the 2017-2018 season schedule.

Ahead of a crucial fixture that could prove decisive for the composition of the top six, Phoenix find themselves without seven key players for the must-win clash against Newcastle Jets.

And while the club has every confidence in the players left available for selection it’s a situation that General Manager David Dome feels undermines the competitive integrity of the entire competition. Read more

Phoenix and Perth play out six-goal thriller

Saturday March 4, 2017 by

Wellington twice took a two-goal lead at QBE Stadium in front of an appreciative Auckland crowd but a high-flying Perth ensured the points were shared.

Wellington Phoenix’s co-coaches Des Buckingham and Chris Greenacre could be forgiven for being aggrieved they finished this game with just one point after their side compiled some of the best attacking passages fans have seen this season.

The home side started very brightly and twice enjoyed a two-goal buffer but Perth Glory’s never-say-die attitude saw them pull their way back into the contest, making a great spectacle for the neutrals but a nervy one for the coaches. Read more
