Hockeyroos take third place at Hawkes Bay Cup

The Hockeyroos took to the pitch today to battle it out for third position against the USA at the Hawkes Bay Cup, in Hastings New Zealand.

After an early goal by Australia, the USA equalised in the 59th minute leaving the game to be decided by a shoot-out. With shoot-out experience on their side, the Hockeyroos ultimately took out third place 3–2 against the USA in the shoot-out.

The fast first quarter saw a lot of endeavour from both teams, with the ball going up and down the field without any luck from either team. Read more

Hockeyroos defeated by Japan

Japan and Australia were fighting to make the final of the Hawkes Bay Cup in today’s match, with the pressure on from the minute the game began.

Japan were first to get on the scoreboard with a scramble in front of the net and multiple attempts at goal giving Australian goalkeeper Ashlee Wells a lot of work to do, before Yuri Nagai managed to get one into the net giving Japan an early lead.

The Hockeyroos were up for their first chance at goal thanks to a penalty corner opportunity with just four minutes remaining in the first half of the game, however they stumbled on the trap, and Japan managed to save the shot on goal. Read more

Hockeyroos draw with Black Sticks at Hawkes Bay Cup

It was a one-all draw for the Hockeyroos and the Black Sticks today at the Hawkes Bay Cup in Hastings, New Zealand.

It was a hard-fought game from the beginning with neither team willing to give away any opportunities resulting in only one shot at a penalty corner each in the first term.

Going into the second quarter and both teams continued to press and defend, with the Hockeyroos receiving their first corner opportunity in the 28th minute which was successfully blocked by the Black Sticks. Read more

Hockeyroos find form, defeat USA

The Hockeyroos have found their form at the Hawkes Bay Cup in Hastings, New Zealand, with a 3–1 defeat of the USA today.

The goals began early with Jane Claxton scoring a field goal in the seventh minute of play to give the Hockeyroos an early lead which they held on to for the first half of the game.

In the final minutes of the third quarter, the USA scored the equaliser after being awarded a penalty corner opportunity which Kathleen Sharkey converted for the team. Read more

Hockeyroos defeat Japan at Hawkes Bay Cup

The Hockeyroos have today taken out their first win of the Hawkes Bay Cup in Hastings, New Zealand, with a 2-1 defeat of Japan.

It was a cracker of a first quarter for the Hockeyroos today as they scored two field goals within minutes of one another. The first went to Jordyn Holzberger in the 9th minute of play, the second to Madi Radcliffe in the 11th.

The strong beginning to the game for the Hockeyroos was hindered by the Japanese defence, as the next two quarters went without goals as both teams pressed forward without any luck. Read more

Kookaburras win International Hockey Open

In a nail-biting final test at the Darwin International Hockey Open, the Kookaburras have won the series and the match with a 5-3 victory over Pakistan in a game that was packed with action from the very first minute of play.

Pakistan came to the final match of the International Hockey Open determined, and were paid for that determination by scoring the first of the game with a field goal from Abu Mahmood.

The Kookaburras were not having it, and only seconds later had a penalty corner opportunity. It was Kiran Arunasalam who scored the penalty corner to tie the match back up – his first goal as a Kookaburra. Read more

Hockeyroos draw with New Zealand at Hawkes Bay Cup

The Hockeyroos have taken on trans-Tasman arch rivals the New Zealand Black Sticks today at the Hawkes Bay Cup in Hastings, New Zealand.

After leading for the majority of the game, the Hockeyroos conceded a goal to the Black Sticks in the 59th minute of play, resulting in another 1-all draw for the Australians.

The Roos were off to a great start, with Laura Barden scoring a cracker of a field goal from the right-hand side of the circle in the ninth minute of play to give Australia the advantage. Read more

Kookaburras take third game over Pakistan

It was a drenched team of Kookaburras that left the pitch with a 2-0 victory over Pakistan in game three of the four game test at the Darwin International Hockey Open tonight.

The first quarter went by with both teams pushing hard to get on the score board, but the weather hindered their opportunities.

Nineteen minutes into the game and Jeremy Hayward scored a penalty corner goal, getting the Kookaburras on the board just before the players had to abandon the pitch due to the weather. Read more

Hockeyroos draw with USA at Hawkes Bay Cup

The Hockeyroos took on the USA today in the first game of the four nations Hawkes Bay Cup in which they will also compete against Japan and home side, the New Zealand Black Sticks. In a tightly fought match, the Hockeyroos came away with a one – all draw in their first game of 2017.

The USA were the first to score, with captain Alyssa Parker fighting through the Australian defence to get a field goal in past Australian goalkeeper Jocelyn Bartram.

Both teams were pressing in the second half with plenty of opportunities but it was to no avail, with the score remaining at USA 1–0 AUS going into the half time break. Read more

Kookaburras defeat Pakistan

There was some spectacular hockey on display tonight at the Darwin International Hockey Open, with the fast-paced game giving both sides ample opportunity to score; however, it was the Kookaburras who came away with their second win of the series defeating Pakistan 3–0.

After a couple of missed opportunities early in the first quarter, the Kookaburras were in with an early lead thanks to a scrabble in the Australian circle resulting in a field goal for Tom Wickham.

Pakistan had an opportunity on a penalty corner early into the second quarter, before Australia’s Flynn Ogilvie and Kiran Arunasalam made a late break for goal which narrowly missed the post. Read more
