Nick Kyrgios produced another stellar performance to lead Australia to a 3-2 victory over the USA in the Davis Cup World Group quarterfinal in Brisbane.
Kyrgios overpowered Sam Querrey, who replaced American No.1 Jack Sock, in today’s fourth rubber to secure Australia’s place in the semifinals for the second time in three years.
Cheered on by a strong crowd of 5,823 at Queensland Tennis Centre, Kyrgios came back from an early break to take the first set 7-6(4), before winning the next two 6-3 6-4 to set up a semifinal clash in September with either Italy or Belgium. Read more

Australia’s Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt has named an unchanged team for the Davis Cup World Group quarterfinal tie against the United States, with Nick Kyrgios, Jordan Thompson, Sam Groth and John Peers set to represent the host nation at Queensland Tennis Centre, in Brisbane, from 7 to 9 April 2017.
Having inspired Australia to victory over Czech Republic in the last round at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, the quartet will again wear the green and gold in the upcoming clash between the two most successful nations in Davis Cup history.
“All the boys are really excited about the Davis Cup quarterfinal, it should be a great tie against a very strong American side,” said Hewitt, Australia’s most successful Davis Cup player with a total of 58 victories. Read more

Brisbane’s Queensland Tennis Centre will host Australia’s tie against the United States in the Davis Cup World Group quarterfinals from April 7 to 9.
Kate Jones, Queensland Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Commonwealth Games, joined Geoff Quinlan, Tennis Queensland CEO and Brisbane International Tournament Director, to make the announcement today.
Queensland Tennis Centre will host the 47th meeting between the two most successful nations in Davis Cup history, having staged the ninth edition of the Brisbane International in January, which attracted almost 100,000 spectators. Read more

Undefeated debutant Jordan Thompson led Australia to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Czech Republic in the Davis Cup World Group first round tie at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club in Melbourne.
Czech Republic’s No.1 player Jiri Vesely overcame Sam Groth 3-6 7-5 6-3 in the fourth rubber, before Thompson maintained his 100 per cent record by defeating Czech debutant and world No.157 Jan Satral 7-6(5) 6-2.

Viktor Troicki (SRB) made it 12 wins and two titles in a row at the Sydney International tonight in a thrilling three set win over Grigor Dimitrov (BUL).
The first set went all the way of the Bulgarian, with Dimitrov breaking in the first and penultimate games to take a 6-2 lead.
Troicki breezed through the second 6-1 to set up a nail-biting decider. The defending champ didn’t make it easy for himself, dropping his first chance to clinch the match when serving for it at 5-4, then missing his first match-point in the tiebreak. Read more

Victoria received a boost today with Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club named to host the Davis Cup World Group first round tie between Australia and the United States from 4 to 6 March 2016.
The former home of the Australian Open will host its first Davis Cup tie in 10 years with a portable grass court to be installed on Kooyong’s famous centre court.
Australia’s last meeting on grass at Kooyong against the United States took place in 1993 and next year’s tie will mark the two nations’ 46th Davis Cup battle. Read more

Newcombe Medal winner Sam Groth (Vic) will return home to kickstart his 2016 season, with the NSW born and bred 28-year-old granted a wildcard into the Sydney International.
Groth enjoyed a breakout season in 2015 which saw him reach the third round of both the Australian Open and Wimbledon, where he faced Roger Federer on centre court, and play a major role in Australia’s Davis Cup comeback win over Kazakhstan in Darwin.

Sam Groth tonight capped his best ever season on tour by scooping Australia’s top tennis award, the Newcombe Medal.
The world No.60 was bestowed the honour at a gala celebration at Crown Palladium in Melbourne, attended by a who’s who of Australian tennis. Groth accepted the Newcombe Medal from the award’s namesake, Australian tennis legend John Newcombe.
“It’s hard to put it into words, it was a great year and this really tops it off. For the whole Australian tennis community to come together and to be presented with this award, I’m a little bit speechless,” Groth said. Read more

Just months after almost walking away from tennis, Victorian Tammi Patterson was today awarded a wildcard entry into Australian Open 2016.
The 25-year-old was forced to the sidelines earlier this year following a string of injuries, but is now preparing for her maiden Australian Open campaign after a remarkable return to form.
For the first time in 2015 one women’s wildcard was up for grabs for the best-performed Australian female at Australian Pro Tour events in Canberra and Bendigo. Patterson earned the wildcard after progressing to the semifinals of the Pro Tour event in Bendigo last week. Read more
